Manitowish Waters

Canoeing in Manitowish Waters by Troy Walters
Manitowish Waters has a rich history of logging, Native American movement, and flourishing resort industry. Once known as Spider Lake, the town took its current name in the late 1930s. Manitowish Waters has been made famous by the 1934 John Dillinger shoot-out at Little Bohemia, the cranberry industry, as the “Barefoot Water Ski Capitol of the Midwest”, the Great Wisconsin Birding and Nature Trail, and the 10-lake chain claiming “Home of the Tiger Musky”. Year-round lodging, quaint shops, delectable dining and four seasons of the finest outdoor recreation have made tourism Manitowish Waters’ number one industry.
