About

My name is Michael Martens, I’ve spent more than the last 30 years of my life in Wausau Wisconsin (except for a brief stint in the late 80’s when I lived in Madison earning my degree). Currently I’m employed by the Boy Scouts of America as a District Executive. That’s a fancy name for professional Boy Scout.  When I’m not hard at work, you can find me working on one of my passions. I’m passionate about many things and this site is an exploration of what makes me go. Some of my favorite things include cycling, amateur radio, photography, films, Wisconsin history, camping, hiking, conservation and the great outdoors. If any those things excite you, then you are in the right place.

I have a little sideline building amateur radio antennas. They can be found at ww.jpole-antenna.com.

I enjoy cycling and cycle touring. I’ve ridden across the state several times as part of an organized tour and most recently followed the path of the Wisconsin River riding with the GRABAAWR tour.

I’ve been interested in photography and filmmaking since I was young. I have a degree in Communication Arts from the University of Wisconsin.

I’m a licensed Extra Class amateur radio operator since 1999. I’m also the Emergency Coordinator for the local ARES/RACES group. Emergency Communications, Field Day and setting up stations in unlikely places interests me.

Camping, conservation, and the great outdoors is a big part of who I am. I strive to pass on the values gained from these activities to my two kids.

Now that you know a little more about me and what makes me tick, I hope you come back often and check out the site. Leave a comment or drop an email if you have something interesting to say. I love good conversation.
